Sean’s Innovative Fusion of Genres
Sean’s music career is a testament to the power of innovation and cultural fusion. Growing up as a proud Tsonga, he was deeply rooted in traditional Tsonga music, but also had a passion for Hip-Hop and Rap culture. This blend of influences sparked the creation of his unique sound, dubbed “Trad-Hop”.
Fusing Heritage with Innovation
He wrote raps and engaged in rap battles with friends, honing his skills and developing his style. As he navigated both traditional and hip-hop genres, he realised the potential for fusion. By combining the vibrant rhythms and melodies of Tsonga Traditional music with the energetic beats and lyrical flow of Hip-Hop, Sean created “Trad-Hop”- a distinctive sound that proudly showcases his heritage while embracing modern influences.
From Storytelling Roots to Chart-Topping Success
His passion for storytelling, started by childhood nights spent sharing tales with his grandmother, inspired him to write songs. This desire to reach a wider audience through music led him to pursue a career in the industry. His first single “ Sesi Ngwana Mhane”, released in 2004, was a pivotal moment in his journey. As a true-life story, the song resonated strongly with listeners, who shared it widely, pushing Sean to new heights and laying the foundation for his future success.

Sharrel’s career soared with the success of “Tsonga Blooded Vol. 1”, as the album’s reception motivated him to work even harder and continue pursuing his music dreams. The thrill of hearing his own songs played on major radio stations was a surreal experience, leaving him feeling like a kid enjoying candy for the first time-pure joy and unbridled excitement. Empowering Talent: The “MP’s Finest” Legacy.
Sean’s passion to nurture raw talent drove him to launch the “MP’s Finest” hip hop movement, a platform designed to uncover and develop emerging artists in Mpumalanga. Having wished for similar opportunities in his youth, he created a safe space for young talent to flourish without exploitation. As a result, “MPs finest” has become a launch hub for success, with many prominent figures in Mpumalanga’s landscape today attributing their rise to this innovative movement. Through “MP’s Finest”, Sean continues to empower the next generation of artists, leaving a legacy in the region’s music industry.
Reigning in Mpumalanga Hip Hop
Being crowned King of Hip Hop in 2012 marked a significant turning point in Sean’s career, tossing him to new heights of recognition and acclaim. This prestigious title not only boosted his visibility but also attracted more bookings, collaborations and opportunities, effectively fast-tracking his journey to success in the music industry. As a result, Sean’s reign as King of Mpumalanga Hip Hop continues to inspire and influence a new generation of artists, solidifying his legacy as a trailblazer in the region’s hip-hop scene.
Using Success to uplift others
He balances his thriving music career with his dedication to charitable endeavours. While his weekends are filled with music gigs, his company’s CSI team takes centre stage during the week, tirelessly identifying families in need of support. With a focus on educational assistance, such as providing school uniforms, Sean’s passion for giving back to the community is unwavering. This dual commitment highlights his remarkable ability to balance his artistic pursuits with his drive to make a positive impact, leaving a legacy in both the music industry and charity.
Expanding Horizons: Music, Film, and Festival Ventures
The plans for Sean-Sharrel and Sean-Sharrel Music are ambitious are multifaceted. Following the successful release of his eighth album, Tsonga Blooded 8 (Sesi ngwana mhane 2024), which has already garnered 28,000 Sean is set to explore new creative avenues. He is developing a movie and TV drama based on Sesi ngwana mhane, and next year will mark the launch of the inaugural Tsonga Blooded African Fiesta and Twa-Ronga Music Festival in the Vaal Triangle. These innovative projects will not only solidify his legacy but also create a lasting impact for his family, artists, and the music industry, strengthening Sean-Sharrel’s status as an innovator and cultural icon.
